18 Nov UBI and Cidesd – Center for Research in Sport, Health and Human Development, collaborate in preparing the Roller Hockey Team for the European Championship
António Ferraz, PhD student in Sport Sciences at the University of Beira Interior and CIDESD PhD scholarship holder, has accompanied the National Roller Hockey Team’s training camp for the last two weeks with a view to participating in the European Roller Hockey Championship.
As part of his doctoral project, António Ferraz monitored all training units and provided the technical team with daily reports on the training load, well-being and recovery of the players. His work constitutes an added value for the technical team to assess the players’ ability to face the demands of an extremely demanding European championship that will be played during this week in Paredes. In addition to this immediate objective, the data will increase knowledge about the demands of the modality as well as a more effective understanding of the impact of training manipulations on players’ performance.
The possibility of carrying out this work results from the technological capacity and knowledge within the scope of monitoring and analysis of performance in collective sports that UBI and CIDESD have developed in recent years, constituting an excellent example of applied research and knowledge transfer . All the work is being carried out in cooperation with the National Technical Director Nuno Ferrão, with the National Selector Renato Garrido and under the supervision of the scientific supervisors of this work Professors Bruno Travassos, Pedro Duarte-Mendes and João Valente dos Santos.
