Rui Brás has a PhD in Chemistry from University of Beira Interior (UBI) and is Assistant Professor of Exercise and Health at Sport Sciences Department of University of Beira Interior (UBI), where teaches biochemistry and nutrition of exercise. Currently he is the Vice-President of the Sports Sciences Department.

His main research interests are in active lifestyles promotion and physical exercise program for older people. He is currently the leader project of “+Ativo|Vida+”, a community multimodal exercise program for the elderly to promote healthy and active ageing at Covilhã region. In addition, he is member of the council scientific of Science Center “Centro de Energia Viva de Montanha -Serra Estrela” located in Manteigas (Portugal).

He has published several papers in peer-reviewed research journals and book chapters.
