Victor Machado Reis holds a PhD in Exercise Physiology and is a member of the Research Center in Sports Sciences, Health Sciences and Human development. He lectures in the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro and his main lines of research are: energy cost of physical activities; effects of exercise in Health-related markers and Bioenergetics of high-intensity exercise.

He is currently tutoring post-doctoral, doctoral and mastery students performing studies on the abovementioned lines of research. Twenty doctoral students and five post-doctoral studies have concluded their studies under his supervision.

He has co-authored 16 text collections (books) and more than 150 papers (more than 100 in ISI indexed journals) and acted as a reviewer in 15 international journals (8 of them ISI indexed). Previously he had a sport coaching career in athletics, which included participation in three Olympic Games (Barcelona 1992, Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000).
