Collaborative Consortium
The Research Center in Sports Sciences, Health Sciences, and Human Development is a cross-institutional, technical and scientifical multidisciplinary unit for applied research, and affiliated with the European College of Sports Sciences. Originally founded in 2007, this unit emerged from the integration of networks through a consortium agreement involving seven Portuguese Universities and Technical Universities distributed across the entire continental and island territory.
Innovation
CIDESD is dedicated to producing cutting-edge research in sport and health sciences aiming to understand and enhance sports performance, and to investigating the effects of physical activity and exercise on health and well-being. To achieve these goals, CIDESD combines laboratory and field-based approaches. Its strategy involves fostering interdisciplinary collaborations with other research institutions, industry leaders, sports federations, and healthcare providers. The organization serves as a hub for collaboration, attracting experts from diverse academic and non- academic fields, and contributing to holistic approaches in science, positioning CIDESD as a leader in sports and health sciences research and enhancing its competitiveness in securing grants and funding from national and international agencies.
CIDESD has established a robust national and international network, with bilateral agreements with approximately 50 recognized institutions worldwide and partnerships with over 20 non-academic organizations and companies, especially in the areas of healthcare, high-level sports training, and applied technology to sport. HEART (Health Empowering Activities and Responsive Technology) is at the forefront of investigating the feasibility and efficacy of physical exercise, focusing on healthy aging and chronic diseases such as chronic kidney disease, cardiovascular diseases, and cancer.
ELITE (Enhanced Learning and Integrated Training for Excellence), leading advancements in training methodologies, cutting-edge technologies, and pedagogical approaches for enhancing youth and elite sports performance.
