Luís Cid is Professor at the Sport Science School of Rio Maior (ESDRM) of the Polytechnic Institute of Santarém (IPSantarém) since September 2004, integrated member of the Research Center in Sport, Health and Human Development (CIDESD) since January 2011, and PhD in Sport Sciences by the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro since December 2010.

Previously he was a professor at the Polytechnic Institute of Guarda (between 1998 and 2004) and CIDESD collaborator member (between 2007 and 2010). Currently, in ESDRM-IPSantarém, is subdiretor of the school (since April 2015), subcoordinator of physical activity and lifestyles bachelor (since October 2014), and coordinator of scientific area of sports and exercise psychology (since March 2014).

His academic research field is linked to motivational determinants in sport and exercise and behavioural change, with special focus on sedentary behaviour, physical activity, healthy lifestyles, well-being, exercise adherence, sport dropout and persistence.
