João Barreira is currently a PhD fellow at CIDESD and the University of Maia (UMAI) studying the sleep and development of fatigue in young soccer players. His project is a continuation of his master’s dissertation, where he studied the associations between sleep and fatigue perception in elite women soccer players. He holds a bachelor’s degree in Sport Sciences and a master’s degree in Sports Training.

João has published works about athlete’s sleep, soccer teams’ training loads, and high-intensity interval training. His main research interests are fatigue management and development in athletes, workload monitoring, high-intensity interval training, and strength training. João also has a special intereset in data science and analysis, where he is currently developing his skills using the R software.
