Hélder Lopes, Ph.D in Physical Education (PE) and Sport, is an associate professor with aggregation at the Department of PE and Sport at the Faculty of Social Sciences (FCS), University of Madeira (UMa).

He has held different positions, namely: Member of the General Council, President of FCS, President of the Observatory for Employment and Professional Qualification, President of the Department of PE and Sport, President of the Scientific Council of FCS, Director of the Master’s in PE in Basic and Secondary Education.

Researcher in several projects with competitive funding and/or with protocols with public and private entities.

His area of interest is predominantly centered on the pedagogical process, using Sport as a tool for transforming the individual, articulating the pedagogical process with the understanding and explanation of sports activities, focusing on operationalization at the level of Teaching PE, Tourism, Health and Sports Training and the respective resistance to change.
