Carlos Carvalho is graduated from the National Institute of Physical Education (INEF), postgraduate degree from the Institute of Sport Science of Bayreuth University, PhD in Sports Sciences from the University of Trás-os-Montes and Alto Douro (UTAD) and aggregation from the Faculty of Sport of the University of Porto (FADEUP).

He was member of the installing commission of the Degree in Sports and Physical Education of UTAD and then professor and member of different academic bodies of the Faculty of Sciences of Sport and Physical Education of the University of Coimbra (FCDEF-UC). He is currently Full Professor at University Institute of Maia (ISMAI).

He was a member of the technical team of the volleyball team of the Academic Association of S. Mamede (National Vice-champion and Finalist of the Portuguese Cup). He belonged to the team of preparation of the National Selection of Volleyball for the World-Championship in Argentina and supports many other teams and athletes of different modalities.

He was co-founder and Vice-Director of the Research Center in Sports Sciences, Health Sciences and Human Development (CIDESD).

His research activity is mainly focused in Strength and Conditioning Training for Children and Adolescents. He has 6 books edited, several chapters in books and proceedings books and is the author of numerous publications in international peer-review journals.
