Aldo M. Costa was born in Vila do Conde (1978), Portugal. In 2009 finished his Ph.D in Sports Sciences at the University of Beira Interior (UBI). In 2017 successful completed his aggregation academic title in sport science at UBI (sport development and talent identification). Currently holds a position of Assistant Professor (w/aggregation) at UBI, with habilitation for teaching and researching namely “Practical studies in Swimming”, “Exercise Physiology” and “Talent Development and Excellence in Sport” in bachelor, master and doctoral courses.
Between 2013 and 2017 he was Vice Dean for Education and Quality Assurance of the Human and Social Sciences Faculty (UBI), managing multiple projects for pedagogical innovation, academic improvement and other curriculum enrichment activities.
Since 2018, he is the mobility (e.g., Erasmus mobility) and traineeship (bachelor students) coordinator for sport science students in UBI. He his also an experience researcher in national local research centers (CIDESD and CICS-UBI), participating in several research projects with different research groups and institutions. Acts as a reviewer of several ISI indexed journals.
Research interests include preferably in the field of exercise physiology and sport development in particular the evaluation and modelling of human performance, having published several papers in peer-review journals, some books and books chapters. In 2014 wins an honourable mention in Sports Science (sports training category) by the Portuguese Olympic Committee. He is frequently invited to participate as scientific advisor by the Portuguese Swimming Federation in several community projects related to “aquatic readiness” in the Portuguese population and “talent identification and development”.
Currently he is the President of the Portuguese Swimming Coaches Association, member of the executive board of the International Society for Comparative Sport and Physical Education and also invited expert of physical education in the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Education-2030 project.
